Making the most of your botanical oils

With the modern and rapidly changing lifestyle, our bodies struggle to adapt to the challenging environments. From unhealthy diets, to unhealthy environmental conditions, our skin conditions get affected adversely. And when one talks about skin care, it becomes important to consider natural products like botanical oils.

Botanical oils are the plant based oils extracted from seeds, nuts, kernels, and also from the flesh of vegetables and fruits. Botanical oils have emerged as a vital product for the skin care, as cleaners, toners, and moisturizers. It is said to be beneficial in curing many skin problems like acne, dry skin, oily skin, eczema, hyper-pigmentation spots, rosacea and many more. Unlike many skin care products botanical oils not only improves the skin appearance but acts deeply boost the overall skin health.

How do botanical oils work on the skin?

Botanical oils are essentially lipids, it means they are derived from a variety of oils, fats and waxes which are found in all plants in varying degrees. These plant oils have a fine molecular structure, which makes them easily absorbed by the skin. Skin care application of botanical oils involves direct absorption of the oil, and hence boosting of the lipid barrier to improvise the skin’s appearance and hydration.

Botanical oils are also effective in anti-ageing skin care. These oils replenish our skin’s lipids which get depleted with the age. These lipids play a very important role by holding together the epidermis layer of the skin. Therefore, dry aged skin calls for application of botanical oils for lipids replenishment.

How to use botanical oils for skincare?

Botanical oils can be used alone, as individual oil, or may be combined to form blends. Some botanical oils may be added with some essential oils to specifically treat some skin diseases. It is always recommended to use botanical oils in blends for maximum benefits to the skin health.

Using natural products doesn’t always guarantee you an affirmative result, and some oils might even cause allergic reactions. So it is best to test and trial before deciding.

Oil Cleansing Method (OCM) is a method which makes use of the oil to dissolve and remove dirt on the skin. The basic principle is that we use a good quality oil to free the skin of bad oils. OCM helps to remove oil from the face, the same oil which makes the face look oily or dirty.
